Each of us were born to be creative, it is in our DNA. We each strive to create without realising it. We work hard to create careers, homes and loving relationships. Each morning you create an outfit; a look that is unique to you. We create gardens, habits, meals, goals, and conversation. We long to create and live creative lives. Unfortunately most of us believe it is a privileged existence only for the artistically gifted. This is just not true. You were meant to experience the Kre8ive Life, and this blog aims to encourage and inspire you on your journey to capture your creativity.

Testing your creativity...

A while back I found this really cool advertising campaign for the Panamericana School of Art and Design which challenged people to test their creativity. Check out the original post here. I totally thought that I would be good at this. I did the 'X' one and was really crap. Try it for yourself and give your creative thinking muscles a bit of a work out. This is an activity worth doing in your journal from time to time to keep those creativity muscles well exercised.

So how did you go?

Ok so below is my attenpt. I didn't have this image on my post earlier but I thought I had better add it cause I didn't want credit to go where it was definately not due. It took me ages to come up with these.

Love'n That

Love'n That - While taking one of my regular walks through blog land today I came across this fabulous blog- How about Orange. It has the most fabulous tutorials. But this one was my favourite- check it out.
Image is from How about Orange

Here my version (I've given it a bit of my own creative flare- its made from some fused plastic bags that I had previously created). I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo loven this idea.  Now all I need is some people to give presents too.

Love'n That -  Fresh Watermelon in Summer. On those stinking hot days we have had lately, you can't beat a juicy piece of cold watermelon straight from the fridge.

Love'n That - Well I have been up to it again - refashioning. 'Button' got this dress over Christmas. It was cute enough but not really my thing.  As 'Button' is still only crawling dresses simply create frustration for her - and the dress was just not something that I would put on her to go out. She has lots of other very pretty going out dresses. So the dress ran the risk of warming a coat hanger in her little wardrobe.

In a moment of inspiration yesterday I realised that she could do with some more tops and so I reinvented this little number. I love it. It is very quirky and the look is very cute. I call my sewing style funky shabby chic, cause it is intentionally a bit messy and distressed, but I incorporate that with bright colours (not a fan of pastels). I usually use black thread as it creates detail (I tend to do the same in all my artworks) and I hate seams so avoid them if I can by using the good old zig-zag. I also made a matching head band. Love'n that Button can now wear this.

Love'n That - Susan Boyle's album - I dreamed a dream. This is being played a lot in my house. Love the emotion she sings with. The courage she has shown to follow her dreams encourages and inspires me whenever I put it on. If you happen to be one of the few people on the planet that haven't got hold of her album, do it!!! Go on 'dream a dream' in 2010.

Love'n That -  The smell of freshly cut grass. My hubby has been cutting the grass in our court yard while I have been blogging. Though the smell can get overpowering if in a confined space , it totally brings back memories of childhood chores on a 1 acre block- yep mowing was often my job (and no we didn't have a ride-on mower).

Watcha Wearing Wednesday- New Look

Well, I am kinda cheating today cause my Watcha Wearing Wednesday New Look is not mine- its my lounges. I've had my red couches now for nearly 8 years and as much as I love them they are starting to look a little tired, particularly since the arrival of our 'Button'. There are definately wearing some evidence of undesirable mishaps. So feeling a bit discouraged by my dowdy lounges the other day, and inspired by my other recent cushion making endeavours I figured maybe some new accessories would sass up my lounges a little.

BEFORE

AFTER

So I made some upcycled cushions. They were re-fashioned from some fabric I bought on a visit to Laos a few years ago that had just been left sitting in my linen cupboard. I am pretty happy with the little bit of bling that these cushions bring to my lounge room- and upcycling is great for the budget and the environment. Its WIN - WIN - WIN!!!!

So what do you think??? Do you have something laying around your house that could be upcycled into a NEW LOOK for your place?? I would love to hear about your upcycling projects.

PS - I have more upcycling planned for some of my other rooms so stay tuned!!!!

Love'n That... taking inspiration from life!!!

Love'n That - The smell of apple and cinnamon scented oil.

Love'n That -The feeling of a cool shower on one of these stinking hot and humid summer nights.

Love'n That - The taste of freshly brewed coffee!!!!! Can't start my morning without one...

Love'n That - My daughter's squeals of delight as she chitter chatters away to all her stuffed animals or congratulates herself on her latest achievement- priceless. (Only wish my video camera was working so that I could capture it for you to enjoy too).

Love'n That - Sandra Darling' Visual Art Creations- So I went for a walk in blog land today and came across Sandra's work. What a find!!! Looking for some elegant and totally beautiful work to brighten up your home/ life, her work is stunning. But what is even cooler is that she has a giveaway happening for the month of January. So get yourself over to her blog and check it out, it will enrich your day- guarenteed.

A cure for the Funk...

Thought for Thursday....

I was in an absolute funk the other day- I just could not get out of my own way. I just could have stayed in my pj's and parked myself in front of the tennis and stayed there all day. My attitude was stinky and I had zero motivation. The worst part was this was totally not how I wanted to feel. I kept telling myself that my attitude stunk for so early in the year and that it was not good enough for me to spend the day sitting on my ass. So in a desperate attempt to do something meaningful with my day I decided that the only thing that would make me move my sorry self was to do something for someone else.

I knew a friend of mine needed some cushion covers made for someone she was helping out so I figured "I can sew and I have a machine sitting there doing nothing". So, sew I did. I made cushion covers and I was pretty happy with the result...

What's more it was just the remedy I needed. So in 2010 when I hit a low and the funk sets in, which it undoubtedly will hit more times than I will be able to count- I will ATTEMPT to take my eyes off me and do something for someone else.

Generosity is the perfect cure for stinky attitudes and poor motivation.

Thought for Thursday - beautiful or ugly crystals....

Firstly I am so not good at this regular blogging thing. Sometimes I just feel like I have nothing worthwhile to say. This in itself is a miracle as I usually have something to say about most things. But this got me thinking about words and our use of them. Most of us know that age old saying "If you don't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all". I would like to suggest that this saying needs to be modified slightly. I think it should be- "If you don't have anything positive to say then don't say anything at all".

Negativity is so toxic. Usually we don't need much encouragement to start highlighting faults. We all have those people in our lives that are quick to identify the deficiencies in everything or simply gravitate to a 'glass is half empty' mentality. I know that I can all too easily get stuck on that merry-go-round despite my best efforts to not go there.

This week I came across some very fasinating information about the power of words. I discovered the work of Japanesse author Masura Emoto who claims that human speech or thoughts can impact the asthetics of frozen water droplets. Accordng to Emoto if speech or thought is directed at water droplets before they are frozen, the resuting water crystal images will be beautiful or ugly depending upon whether the words or thoughts were positive or negative. His books suggest that positive thoughts (demonstrated through simply sticking typed words to a container, like 'thank you') spoken words, and music all can have amazing effects on waters crystalisation, with exposure to positivity creating beautiful crystals. Now if you google Mr Masura Emoto you will find many references to his work and books. You will also find comments by his critics who challenge the validitiy of his research methods.

I personally do not particularly care if his results were achieved in double blind studies or not, I am facinated however by the notion that nature could demonstrate the power of words in such a tangible way. Even if there is just the smallest bit of truth to his claims, consider with me what that means. If the words spoken over droplets of water truely can impact the types of crystals they become when frozen, what does that mean for the I have spoken and speak?

Do I create beautiful or 'broken' crystals within those around me, because of the words I speak? I know I want to be helping to form ONLY BEAUTIFUL crystals- but am I????????

(This is the image of the crystal that formed after sticking the typed text "Thank You" on the water's container overnight prior to freezing).

A time for reflection....

Firstly HAPPY NEW YEAR!!! Wow its that time again, time to stop and reflect on the year that was? 2009 was definately a big year:

-Hubby and I celebrated 10 years of marriage
-I turned 30
-Became a Mum to my beautiful 'button'
-Lots of firsts for our 'button' (word, swim, standing, outing- the list is endless)
-Had 4 individual showings of my artwork and participated in 2 Arts Festivals
-I Payed it Forward to 5 new blogger friends
-Participated in the land of blog in a more purposeful way (well hopefully-although I totally fell off the wagon in the last month or so)
-Joined a gym (needed to after stopping breast feeding)

I know I am sounding like a broken record, and I thought only OLD people said this -but can someone please tell me where time goes. Is there some secret land where time hides out? A land where fleating moments play, laughing at those of us who have been too busy to notice their existance. I still can't believe that it is 2010. So what does this new year hold???? In all honesty I HAVE NO IDEA!!! I really haven't had time to sit and reflect on the year that was yet.

So here is my challenge- To review 2009, to determine what lessons it has to teach me in preparation for the 2010 that I want to create!!!! In the coming days I am going to get out my NEW 2010 Journal (this is mandatory- a new year requires a New Journal, even if the old one is not yet full) and ask myself the following questions:

1. Who did I dream I would be by the end of 2009? Why?
2. Am I that person?
3. What did I dream of doing in 2009, but didn't? Why?
4. Who do I hope to become in 2010?
5. What things do I desire to achieve?

I will be sure to post some of my thoughts in the coming days!!!

PS. Kre8ive Life has started the New Year with a new look-do you like???
